Happy New Year!

It was a Mixed up year! A Mix of good and bad. Definitely looking forward to a better 2012.
We went to our good friends' house to celebrate the New Year last evening. It was really a great time. We had some appetizers, good wine, good friends, good kids, and some nice chats. Mix in Angela playing the wii, Some dance game, and it is a perfect evening.
We came home at 1:30am and went to bed. Maizey fell asleep in the car, and didn't even wake up for her diaper change when we got home. Surprisingly enough to us, she slept all night right until 1:40pm this afternoon. Wow! Perfect New Year's gift to us, as we also slept until she woke up. She really is a great baby when it comes to sleeping. At night she actually prefers a short cuddle and rock in the rocking chair, and then she likes to be put into her crib while still awake, and she hums herself to sleep.
Honestly, I want another child. I don't want to wait, but economically it is best if we wait another year to try for the next one. I feel like Maizey is meant to have at least one sibling. She loves the company of other kids. She actually waves at all the other kids when we are out shopping or just out for a walk.
We had new neighbours move in to the unit right next to ours. They are looking a little sketchy, but I'll have to wait until I have a chance to speak with them, to decide. We are still hoping to move out of this neighbourhood sooner rather than later, but must wait for Angela's dad to make his decisions. It would definitely help us out financially to live in that situation. Not to mention that the dogs would have a bigger yard, and maizey would have a bigger yard. There is actually a house for sale right around the corner from my work, and Maizey's day care that looks like it would suite perfectly, and it has a pool. But again, we aren't really going to look, until some decisions are made.
Maizey still isn't walking, but is getting better at cruising and pulling up on things. She now bum scoots and crawls in the traditional way.
Ok.. I'll have to add more later, because we have to head out to my mom's house. She is cooking a big New Year's dinner for us.
Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas!

Christmas was nice this year! It was really our first Christmas as a family. Sure last year we were a family, but things were so haywire last year- it didn't really feel like Christmas. This year we got up on Christmas morning and opened gifts, my mom came over and we had coffee and cinnamon buns. It was nice. The only thing that could have made it any better would have been some snow and maybe an actual fireplace with a fire burning. It felt like Christmas for the first time in a long time. I can't wait until Maizey can understand it and get excited about stuff!
You won't even believe what I got for Christmas this year!
-- a trip to Jamaica! All inclusive 4 star resort with my best friend Darla. Angela arranged it for me, took the week off work to watch Maiz and everything! I'm a little mixed about how I feel about it. I will miss them greatly while I'm away, and am affraid Maiz will forget me while I'm gone or be mad at me when I come back•
I'm going at the end of January.

Maiz is becoming so independent. Just tonight when I was putting her to bed with the usual snuggle and rocking routine, she just pointed at her bed. I put her in and she rolled over and cuddled her pinky (pink blanket with a stuffed bunny head attached) and I haven't heard a peep since. She didn't even want the bottle.

Back to Work and Other Things

Well I am back to work. I had First Aid training for the past two days. It was pretty fun. I honestly worried that it would completely suck going back to work. really going back only reminded me how much i really love my job! I'm really happy to be back! (**edidted to say - REALLY, how many times can one person say Really in one paragraph)

We got a new Truck. I traded in my VIBE and got a 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab with 4x4. It's Stealth Grey. WE LOVE IT! We'll be spending more on Gas than we were but it's totally worth it.

Maizey is teething. Really bad. She is drooling all over the place, and has diarrhea. Her poor little bum is raw, and she cries when we have to clean her up. We have been trying different things to help her feel better. We have been bathing her with Epsom salts, and drying her really well, keeping her dry with very frequent diaper changes, and using Ihle's paste on the rash. Tomorrow, we have decided to keep her home from daycare (Ange's off) so that we can just let her Air it out. We'll just let her play in the nude, and if she pees on the floor, we'll just clean it up right away. and wipe her up and dry her off. We will only let her play with toys that we can wash. She'll get another Epsom salt bath anyway. I just feel so bad for her. This is the worst rash she's ever had.
She is doing well with pulling herself up on the furniture, and cruising around it. I feel like she will learn to walk pretty soon. I'm not in a hurry for that though. Whenever she is ready is fine with me.

Alright, I am off to bed. I am exhausted from having to get up so early every morning. LOL...

6 days

Only 6 days until I have to go back to work. I have mixed feelings about it. I'm hoping that less free time will lead to better organization.
Maizey has started crying and reaching for mom when being dropped off at daycare. This doesn't help me want to be back to work.
I woke up with the worst headache this morning. The Tylenol I took hasn't even touched it.
Does anyone know if the good shows will be back on this week?
I'm going back to bed. It's cold and raining.

1 year ago tonight

1 year ago tonight, I went to bed with gas. It took me several hours to accept that I was actually having contractions. It was 5 days early, I was convinced it was too soon! That night 1 year ago, was the best night of my life! There was pain, and possibly some swearing, but no doubt in my mind - the absolute most wonderful experience of my lifetime.
The year since started rough. First - slight ppd. It never got horrible, but none the less it was there and as someone who is prone to depression, it was scarey. I just didn't want to get to that nasty pit in my stomache, darkness of a place I know all too well. Soon after the birth, my mom wasn't right... She expressed some trouble with her bowels and with her appetite. I could look at her and know she wasn't right. She was admitted to the hospital on December 16. It was hard to be a new mom without my mom there to advise me. January 1- Angela's mom was admitted to paliative care in the cancer centre. January 2 - my mom had emergancy surgery to remove her large bowel - later to find out she had gangrenous lesions and cancer of the bowel. My mom then had a long recovery to make. January 7- Angela's mom passed away. Several days of Visitation and funeral coordinated with visits to my recovering mom in the hospital. Followed by two weeks of single parethood while Angela was in Portugal laying her mom to rest.
Soon after - a falling out with friends.
It was a rocky start Maizey! Your babyhood was not what I imagined it to be, but we made it through the rough, and onto smooth sailing. I love you more than anything little girl!

Birthday time!

Can't even believe that Maizey's first birthday is on Thursday! My god! I am sad but at the same time so very excited and happy. My baby is growing, and doing new things every day. I will miss her babyhood. I also look forward to watching her grow, change and discover.
She started daycare last week. She loves it! She loves to be around other children, so I thought she'd like daycare. The best part about taking her to daycare? The smile, hug and kiss I get from her when I pick her up to go home! She has become quite a mummy suck!
We found a house we love! It got quite exciting for a couple days, as Ang's dad was ready to make an offer, and immediate possession was possible. A few things changed and we will have to wait to make an offer. We will probably miss out on this one.
We've decided to stop looking until her dad's house has sold. Then we will have no complications when it comes to making offers.
Christmas is coming! I have figured out what changed for me and why Christmas doesn't feel as magical as it once did. My parents use to do the stressful stuff and we just enjoyed it, now it's harder to enjoy because we have to do the stressful stuff! I have found new magic though - making Christmas magical for maizey will make it so special to me.
Check out my new post on my private blog!
I'll post pictures here once I get them off my camera.

Ignoring the Bloglands

I don't know what up with me lately. I have been completely ignoring the blog and all the blogs that I read. I will have to take a few moments to catch up on everything. I miss the blogs.
I guess nothing too exciting has been going on in my life. Maizey is still such a good little girl. 11 months old now! WOW. So strange. OMG, though, I am bursting with love for her. It's so unlike anything I have ever felt before in my life.
She is doing such cute little things all the time.
She laughs when we laugh, she has started signing "more". We are working on "please" and "milk". She shakes her head "no" when we say no or when she doesn't want something. She is saying Mom, Momma, Dad, Daddy, Dada and she also says "hi", and waves hello and bye.
Most nights she sleeps between 10 to 12 hours. She has started giving us some trouble with going to bed. She use to go down really easily, now she has wanted to have cuddles until she falls asleep. I love the cuddle time, but at the same time, I know it isn't good to get her into a routine of rocking and cuddling every night.
She has been waking in the night the past two nights, we think she is teething. Nothing would make her happy last night, so we let her sleep in our bed. I also love cuddling in bed all night, but at the same time again, I know we shouldn't be getting her into that habit.
We have had Angela's dad's two dogs right now, until he comes back to Canada. He will be back on November 7. The people who were supposed to be watching them decided to go back to Portugal early. The poor dogs weren`t being taken care of that well though. They both needed to see the vet the day after we got them. The one had an ear infection (really bad) and the other was missing two claws, and her toes were bleeding. They also seemed to be starving for attention. I feel bad for them.
It`s really hard though, having 4 dogs in the house.
I booked a King Jacuzzi Falls View suite in Niagara Falls for Angela and I. It is sleep cheap in Niagara falls so I got the room for $60. Not a bad deal. We aren`t yet sure if we will be bringing Maizey with us.
Maizey`s daycare is all set up, she starts on November 15. I got back to work on December 5.
I am wanting to get excited about Christmas, but, It`s just not exciting to me. I mean, it would be if we lived in a place that I liked, and felt like home, but right now, I don`t feel cozy in this house. I don`t know what I am looking for, but I am sure when I find it, then I will know.
We are still currently doing a house hunt. There have been two houses that I could see myself living in. Other than that... nothing.
Ok, well that's it for an update for now... I have to go to bed. I will try to be more attentive to my blog, but I can`t make promises.

Maizey News

Maizey is doing fantastic. She hasn't had any more teeth pop through. Just has the three on the bottom still. She has begun to travel. She doesn't "crawl", but more like either "barrel roll" or "bum skooch" around the room, depending on the type of floor. She has figured out how to make a Clicking noise with her tongue, it really is so cute. She also has begun to have conversations. Changing the cadence and tone in her voice as she talks. Some times she "reads" from books. Also very cute. She is eating a lot better and we are down to about 3 bottles a day. She basically skipped baby food. She eats our food, cut into small bits. She likes most everything but isn't a big fan of beef. Her favourite is turkey, followed by chicken. We are hoping that she will have a wide variety of tastes in her food. Her dads are vegetarian and vegan which offers her a nice array of meat alternatives. She has sampled some Greek food, and some Indian food, and is a big fan of both.
She has begun to play independently for longer periods, which you would think would be wonderful for my ability to get things done around the house. Nope! She screams bloody murder any time I am out of her sight. She has finally begun to call me MaaMaa, interchanged with Nana sometimes.
We have an appointment with a daycare tomorrow, this is a woman who works from her home, and is literally a 2 minute walk from my place of work. I am hoping that we will like her and that her price is ok. I am hoping to not have to pay any more that $35 a day.
I just love watching my baby play by herself. Her hair is coming in a little more, but it will be still some time before she has enough to style.
I got a text message from my dad last night. He and my grandfather from Scotland are coming for a visit at the end of October. My baby brother will also be in the area at that time. I'm so excited for Maizey to get to meet her great-grandfather and her uncle. I am hoping too at this time she will get to meet my dads whole family. My grandfather is a little confused about Maizey. He thinks that I got pregnant, and some guy left me with her. He is in his 90s, and I'm not sure anyone has explained to him about Angela. None the less, he loves the name "Maizey".

Grandma's House & Drama

My secret wish came true. My Grandma and Grandpa's home went up for sale. It had an open house yesterday. Angela and I went to have a look at it. It was pretty much just as I remembered it. Only, it was run down. The asking price was way too much. The agent at the open house said that they'd be willing to drop the price substantially. They would have to. The house needs at least $100 000 worth of work put into it. It would make a good flip house. The funny thing was that the actual space of the house and the yard would suit our needs completely. I mean, it would need a pool added, and a lot of stuff inside, like new everything! Maybe even a re- configuration of the bedroom and dining room. Totally workable. It would need a garage built but there is space, and it would also need foundation work and new basement windows, probably a new roof. Really, if I had the money myself, I might go for it. It excites me to think of the possibilities. But at the same time, we aren't looking for something we need to work on. We are looking for a move right in.

We went to a couple other open houses yesterday as well. There were some nice places, but nothing that had us jumping for joy. We saw one with an in law suite in the basement. It was really very nice, but there was a lack of space in the in law suite and not pool. It was also well above the price that Angela's dad has given us to look for.

There has been some drama going on in Angela's family. Her dad is currently in Portugal, and will be back in November. It seems that he has met a woman. A woman that he really likes. Not everyone is happy for him. Angela's oldest sister, is really not happy. She keeps saying that it is way too soon, and that this woman should not be enjoying their mother's things. She keeps bringing up concern that Dad is spending all of the insurance money on her, and that she is wearing all of their mother's gold jewelry. There are even rumours that he has married this woman already. She seems to be trying to get Angela and her other sister to be really angry at their father. She keeps telling them that he is a liar, and that is is lying to their faces etc. She says that this woman is only after his money. He swears up and down that these rumours are not true. He admits that he likes this a lot, and that they are enjoying spending time with one another. He would like to bring her to Canada for everyone to meet, and he hopes that we will all give her a chance.

Angela has been mixed, she has been caught up in the Drama of her sister, but also, she is trying to just stay out of most of it. She says all she can do right now is have faith that her dad is being honest about most things, especially about not being married to her already. She will give this woman a chance. Is she happy that he has met someone this soon after her mother passed? No, but she can't do much about it. Her father has been with someone for 40years of his life, and he is afraid to be alone. If he has found someone he truly enjoys spending time with, than good for him.

There is actually a possibility that this woman would move to Canada and live with us. This is where we are kind of worried. We don't even know this woman. What makes us think we would want to live with her. I guess we will just have to do what feels right. If we have to rent a new place, and wait until we can get our own mortgage to buy a house, then we will.
